Zhang-Hu Hu was born in Anhui province, China, in 1986. He received her B.S. degree in Applied Physics in 2008, and Ph.D in Plasma Physics in 2012, from Dalian University of Technology (DUT), Dalian, China. He has been an assistant professor of physics, and Master's Supervisor in DUT since 2013. He has been performing the investigations of ion beam-plasma interactions with particle-in-cell simulations since 2008, including plasma wakefield acceleration, ion beam focusing, transport, and energy deposition in background plasmas.
From September 2008 to November 2012, He mainly investigated the influences of external magnetic fields, background plasma ions, laser field and nonlinear effects on the energy deposition of ion beams in plasmas. It is shown that plasma ions can play an important role on the energy loss of ion beams in the case of strong external applied magnetic fields. The nonlinear effects are also found to enhance the energy deposition of ion beams. The applicant also investigated the current neutralization and plasma polarization for high energy ion beams propagating through magnetized background plasmas.
He began to perform relativistic electromagnetic particle simulations of plasma-wakefield acceleration driven by relativistic proton beams (such as the LHC proton beams at CERN) since December 2012. The particle simulation code has been updated to include the moving-window approach. The parallel efficiency of the code is also optimized. With this optimized code, the applicant investigated the wakefield excitation in the proton-driven-plasma-wakefield acceleration (PDPWFA). And the self-injected electrons are observed in the back of first acceleration bucket. The results of above work have been published in Physical Review E, Physics of Plasma, Laser and Particle Beams, et al.
